MKDA provided the full scope of design services at 1300 Eye Street for the Bank Policy Institute, a public policy, research and advocacy group, which represents the nation’s leading banks. Given the building’s proximity to historical landmarks and multiple longstanding hospitality institutions, the team devised a design concept dubbed “History Buff,” incorporating historical and traditional elements into a modern setting. MKDA selected a palette that is rich in texture and natural tones, including chevron flooring and a dynamic triangular ceiling detail, which is complemented with a striking blue accent color, resimercial furniture and custom wall moldings throughout. The plan includes 37 private offices with glass fronts along the perimeter to maintain brightness and transparency as well as 10 open workstations for support staff. There is also a state of the art conference center with the flexibility to transform into a larger event and social space.
