Starwood Property Trust, a real estate investment trust company, was looking to stray away from the minimalist, stark feel of its previous office. Instead, the firm wanted a warm and inviting space that would incorporate elements of hospitality throughout the workplace to help individuals feel at-ease. The reception area defines this welcoming theme, greeting employees and guests alike with various warm wood tones and textures. MKDA designed a custom reception desk that blends marble and wood along with unique pendant lights that hang from the open ceiling. These calming tones and furnishings accentuate the surrounding city views allowing an abundance of natural light to flood the area.
Continuing down the hallway past reception, private offices are situated along the interior with glass, black-framd fronts providing transparency and keeping the space bright. This open concept workspace features open ceilings, various low-rise workstations and towering potted plants scattered throughout to reinforce the warm atmosphere and promote collaboration between employees.
Directly adjacent to the work area is an open pantry area with touchdown stations outside for visitors. The mixture of soft wood tones in the pantry and reflective glass tiles by the sink add visual interest and personality. A flat screen television sits between cabinets across from high-top seating, resembling the casual, yet sophisticated setting of a hotel bar. This focus on wellness and comfort in every aspect of the space highlights its hospitable nature.
